How OnBase Accelerator for Guidewire helps insurers compete

OnBase Accelerator for Guidewire helps insurers compete

If you’ve watched live TV at any point in the last decade, then you’ve been bombarded with ads from insurance giants such as Progressive, Geico, Liberty Mutual and others. It’s a strong indication of just how wildly competitive the insurance industry is, with no signs of that competition slowing. (To be fair, those ads are usually entertaining.)

This competitiveness is true not only for those behemoths with massive advertising budgets, but also for homegrown insurers — and those in between. To remain competitive, insurers of all sizes should embrace digital transformation to continue their growth trajectories while simplifying business processes and improving customer experience.

Enter Hyland’s OnBase Accelerator for Guidewire InsuranceSuite, otherwise known at Guidewire as Hyland’s Ready for Guidewire OnBase Accelerator. It’s a pre-built, validated integration code that eliminates the need to start from scratch when Guidewire customers want to bring content services capabilities into their Guidewire InsuranceSuite solutions.

Maximize efficiency and growth

The Pekin Insurance Group — a 100-year-old provider in Pekin, Ill. — discovered that integrating the accelerator gave the company the flexibility it needed. The accelerator enables Pekin to respond rapidly to agent and customer requests, as well as adapting its business to enter new markets.

Pekin has grown into a multistate provider of property and casualty products for both personal and commercial lines as well as a provider of life and health insurance. With the goal of competing with larger insurers in a rapidly evolving marketplace, Pekin sought to generate and sustain growth and simultaneously simplify business processes.

To do so, Pekin first replaced its legacy 35-year-old platform with Guidewire core, data analytics and digital engagement products. The insurer then quickly built its own platform network by leveraging ancillary products from Guidewire PartnerConnect Solution program members — like OnBase, Hyland’s content services platform. Incorporating OnBase helped Pekin not miss a beat when it came to servicing customers, thanks to Hyland’s Ready for Guidewire accelerators.

Now part of Pekin’s larger ecosystem, OnBase acts as the insurer’s content services platform. The Hyland solution eliminates data silos, streamlines business operations and bolsters the customer experience by making it quick and easy to manage and access critical information. Pekin leverages multiple data import methods in OnBase to capture inbound data and documents. They also use OnBase to connect information for employees and independent agents across the home office and hundreds of agency locations.

“The very diverse ecosystem that Guidewire brings to the table was extremely important in not only our decision but our implementation,” said Dave Whitesell, assistant vice president for Pekin’s IT group. “We wanted to have a very modern system that could give us all the capabilities we needed to grow in the future. We also wanted to make sure that all the ancillary components for enterprise content management with OnBase were best of breed.”
