Insurance and security part 2: Security, data breaches, and cyber threats

In part 2 of our insurance and security video series, Mark Breading, partner at Strategy Meets Action, and Charlie Hanna, director of Hyland’s Domestic Insurance Solutions Group, sat down and talked about what insurers are thinking about with respect to data breaches and cyber threats.

“It seems like we see data breaches every day,” said Breading. “And there’s a wide variety of threats out there – both internal and external – that companies need to manage.”

“It’s a huge concern,” noted Hanna. “Particularly when you think about how these threats affect one of insurer’s biggest initiatives, which is becoming more transparent to the insured.”

Simply put, you need to provide the transparency and information your insureds need, but you need to do so in a secure fashion. Meanwhile, it’s important to manage every component of data you have, who should be authorized to see it and work with it, and who they can route it to.

“Half of all breaches take place internally.”
