What #GivingTuesday means to Hyland

hyland-social-media-giving-tuesday-blog

#GivingTuesday is a new global day that celebrates giving back. Every Tuesday that follows Thanksgiving will focus on what people are doing to give back to their communities, like authors donating books, people donating blood or others who are using the day to talk about their favorite charity.

In honor of this great idea, we thought today would be a perfect time to talk about our nonprofit video contest, where almost 20 submissions have been vying to make it to the final round of voting. The nonprofit charities featured in the three winning videos will be the beneficiaries of all the money we raise from the Hyland Holiday Party raffle ticket sales.

We typically raise more than $40,000, so the competition has been passionate.

For the past few years, this contest has been a staple at our holiday parties, as it gives employees who serve on the boards or volunteer at these great organizations a platform to share the good work they are involved with. Not only does this promote the spirit of giving in our employees, it connects them with nonprofit organizations they may not have otherwise been aware of.

The polls are still open

While we do a tremendous amount of work year-round to give back to our community, we’d like to take this opportunity to drive awareness about the great organizations that have become our top seven finalists:

Funds will help foster improved literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need.

Funds will help ensure every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies to teachers of the students who are most in need.

Funds will support the “Village of Eden” in Uganda and help purchase an ambulance for the medical clinic to help transport critically ill children and adults to the nearby hospital.

Funds will provide financial support to families of chemically dependent adolescents who need additional funds to cover costs with recovery treatment.

Funds will provide financial support to families burdened by pediatric brain tumors and build awareness of the lack of funding allocated for pediatric brain cancer research.

Funds will support a wide variety of free programs and services that address the emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs of those touched by cancer.

Funds will help teens and young adults by providing educational and workforce opportunities, skills development and access to career paths.

Thanks for taking the time to read about how we’re interpreting #GivingTuesday. It’s really a great idea.
