The weekly recap: March 23

Was that a fast week, or is it just me?

When I recently mentioned that I was sure time is speeding up, my lovely colleague Ryan replied, “It just feels that way because you’re getting deeper into the second half of your life.”

So I said, “Be nice to your elders,” and took his donut.

Actually, I didn’t. It was one of those light, glazed donuts. I need a little heft to my donut. And a lot of chocolate, thank you very much.

Snacking proclivities aside, the week is now history. Here’s what we were up to:

The Hyland Blog

  • I had no idea the extent to which veterans have a hard time transitioning to civilian careers.

That’s why I’m so impressed with what author – and veteran – Joe Kocsis has achieved with our veteran employee resource group (VERG). In two short years, the group has counseled other vets, assisted them with recruiting and interviewing, and earned national recognition with a Military Friendly® Employers Gold Award!

  • As demonstrated by the VERG, here at Hyland, we give all our employees the resources they need to have successful careers. But we also encourage and support women to get into the tech field.

Check out Suzie Noviski’s great post about the positive impact of Hyland’s Women in Networking group. She closes by inspiring others to find similar resources at their organizations and in their communities.

  • In the age of the hack, be it personal or organizational, we all need to understand how hackers use psychology to trigger emotional responses or familiarity so we freely give them the information they want.

The best way to fight back, says Kate Barney, is to know how they operate, so you can outthink them and keep data safe.

Hyland news

My favorite thing this week

  • While doing some research for CommunityLIVE, I found out the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people with mustaches is 1,131.

Something to think about, as there will be more than 2,000 of us all gathered in Nashville this September. Just sayin’.

If you’d like to let us know what you accomplished this week, leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
