Hyland named to Top 23 Best Employers in Technology for Women 2018 List

Last month, Hyland was honored to be named to the Top 23 Best Employers in Technology for Women 2018 List, published by Forbes. As a growing organization, I’m humbled and honored to work with talented individuals who are passionate about constantly improving our software to make life easier for our wonderful customers. As a woman in the workplace, I understand the importance for organizations like ours to provide work-life balance for everyone.

But I’m not alone. In fact, our CEO and President, Bill Premier, earlier this year signed the CEO Action Pledge, which helps Hyland benchmark with organizations that make diversity and inclusion a top priority. As a woman in a leadership position, I understand how important this is.

That’s why at Hyland, we provide a safe, comfortable, and inspiring place for all employees. Whether you are starting your journey in the ‘real world,’ beginning your journey into motherhood, or looking for a career change, there are many ways Hyland is a great place for everyone – especially working women.

Ensuring work-life balance

One of the big ways we accomplish this is by providing on-site daycare for our employees. At Hyland, we understand that work-life balance is important – especially for new moms. That’s why our daycare staff provides Montessori practices for our employees. This makes parenthood easier, as your child is within walking distance throughout the day.

We also have a parent peer group where employees can take time during their day to discuss challenging topics that arise while working and raising a family.

Going for the WIN

In addition to our hands-on daycare staff and parent peer group, Hyland has an employee resource group for females and female advocates called HylandWIN.

This program, which we launched in March 2017, is an employee-led group that builds an internal network of women to help encourage and empower members to pursue their personal and professional goals. Members have opportunities to talk about confidence, negotiation tips, and leadership presentations. They also hear from accomplished females both at Hyland and around Northeast Ohio.

As HylandWIN’s executive sponsor, it’s exciting to oversee this program and represent it at the executive level. I also love to see all the great interactions that occur, propelling us all forward.

In addition to presentations, HylandWIN offers networking opportunities for females to get to know one another. As our organization continues to grow, it’s important for us to evolve the way our worldwide employee base interacts. One of the ways we are doing this is by offering networking opportunities that include learning how to program. Tech-savvy women teach these internal workshops to any Hylander who is interested in working with others and expanding their knowledge of the world of computer science.

Expanding the conversation

While HylandWIN is an internal group, we partner with various female organizations such as OCWic, Girls Who Code, and include women organizations in our recruiting strategy. To provide IT opportunities and spread awareness of computer science in Northeast Ohio, Hyland also hosts a bi-annual conference with a goal to give collegiate and career-level women opportunities to learn the latest tips and resources available in the IT industry. To date, this conference has brought more than 300 individuals to Hyland and educated them on the latest technology practices in the industry.

We’re excited about this award and hope it continues the trend of getting more women involved in the tech industry. We also look forward to providing a warm and welcome environment for all employees, including women.

Meanwhile, I hope this inspires other organizations to strive to be an inclusive place to work – for everyone!
