From code to community: Hyland Software interns describe their experiences
It’s nice to work for a company that gifts its employees with the opportunity to gift others. Just another one of many Hyland Life perks!
Taylor Joffrion (2nd year intern), Marketing
There’s more that goes into the Hyland Software internship program than coding. That’s just one of the reasons why Taylor keeps coming back to intern at Hyland every summer. From a leadership perspective, we want our interns to gain valuable work experience AND immerse themselves in our culture. This makes the intern service day an important piece of our summer internship program.
Who we served
On Friday, June 24th, almost 70 interns took over an auditorium on our campus where they worked with 11 local organizations. This was possible through our connection with BVU (Cleveland-based Business Volunteers Unlimited), whose mission is to promote business volunteerism and foster excellence in nonprofit organizations. During the day, the interns assisted in setting up crafts, packaging toiletry items, making blankets, and much more!
The organizations we helped included: Because I Said I Would, Earth Day Coalition, Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, RePlay for Kids, Affecto USA, Benjamin Rose, Forget Me Not Animal Rescue, Towards Employment, UH Hospitals, Cleveland Kids Book Bank, and 2100 Lakeside Men’s Shelter.
Additionally, we were thrilled to help one of our OnBase customers, University Hospitals.
I spent my time creating blankets for UH kids. Hyland stood out to me because of events like this. I became engaged with the community through service.
Grace Piscura, development intern
Giovanna Orlando, an Education Services intern, enjoyed another crowd favorite, Replay for Kids. Giovanna and others transformed more than 24 toys for children with disabilities in Northeast Ohio. By reconfiguring the toys, they’re much more accessible and usable for the children.
“Feeling like one of Santa’s elves and knowing a couple of kids will soon be enjoying electronic pets is awesome,” Giovanna told me.
More than service
Not only did we have the opportunity to give back, but we are able to bond with fellow interns. Service day was a great opportunity for social interaction among our interns and employees.
Sean Lima, development intern
As this was my first intern service day, I was very impressed with everyone’s willingness and enthusiasm to help. In fact, our enthusiasm usually carries over and inspires the partners we work with.
I had a wonderful time meeting your team and your interns were all fantastic and worked so hard! We had so many projects to complete I didn’t think we’d even come close to finishing everything, but it was all done by the time I left!
Misty Musson, development coordinator, Lake Erie Nature & Science Center
On behalf of the internship program and the organizations we served, I want to send a big THANK YOU to the interns for making the most of your summer internship and living the #HylandLife.
