Finding the right place: My Hyland story

women in tech

I’m new to Hyland, and since the company cares deeply about encouraging women to get into the tech field, I thought I would share my story of how I got here.

Because sometimes, when you’re prepared, the right opportunity can find you.

I had recently translated my CV from German to English, as I was preparing to move on from my former employer to work in an international environment. Almost immediately, a Hyland Recruiting Manager found me online and sent me a message asking if I would be interested in discussing an HR Manager role.

I couldn’t believe it! I started looking into the company and loved what I found.

After a phone call, I soon found myself in a Zoom interview with a few Hylanders who work in the HR department.

My first thought was, “Oh, this company is for real!”

After another virtual interview, I then met with the HR Manager and the Site Manager for the Berlin office, Alexander van der Brock.

Although I had read good things about Hyland, meeting “really existing” people – via a webcam – helped me through my first experience being hired remotely. After further conversations, Hyland offered me the role of Senior Manager of HR for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.

Even though I hadn’t met anyone in person, I had that sense of trust from the beginning and committed to the company. And part of the reason for that was the encouragement I received as a woman who works in tech.

What convinced me and is still inspiring me to work for Hyland?

Hyland’s culture is very appreciative and employee-oriented. It’s actually fascinating. The executives are approachable and everyone is supportive. You really do get the sense that everyone is working toward the same goal, which is to help our customers help their customers.hyland life

I have great opportunities for creation within my scope of role and great opportunities to grow. For example, my role has already expanded and I’m now responsible for the Asia-Pacific region, too.

A few months after I started, I had the opportunity to travel to our headquarters in Westlake, Ohio, for onboarding. While there, I attended the quarterly management meeting. To kick things off, Bill Priemer, Hyland’s president and CEO, started his presentation with the image on the right projected on the wall.

At this moment, I became a little emotional and thought: YES! This is how I feel! This is why I’m here!

The good thing is, I still feel the same way.
