1. Security, IT and the CIO
What you need to know: Hyland’s CIO Steve Watt explained to Silicon Republic why he believes the role of the CIO is changing and why investment in AI is key for security. He discusses where cutting-edge innovation is happening in the IT landscape, touching on current challenges, digital transformation, sustainability and security.
The 60-second download: Building strategies and engaging with business leaders improves IT strategy and security. “We do this a couple of ways: by evaluating scope of solution, cost and risk, and then engaging discussion with the business through a variety of ways, such as sourcing technology reviews as part of our purchasing process, quarterly technology roadmaps with key business units, and solution guidance for core platforms,” said Watt. Matching the speed of the industry has its pros and cons but, in the end, what’s being done is bringing value, security and innovation to the IT world.

3. Hyland expands tech education opportunities
What you need to know: Hyland will be joining other organizations in the Cleveland Foundation’s new, multi-building, mixed-use building plan. This East 66th Street and Euclid Avenue business center is a 10-year project and will house a dozen spaces for non-profit, institutional and for-profit uses.
The 60-second download: Hyland’s section of this project will house a classroom to help students and offer coding workshops, camps and other activities. “For years now, there have been people in Tech Outreach with Hyland who have said they wish we had a physical space closer to the students,” said Caitlin Nowlin, who oversees the company’s free educational programming for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers. 4. Hyperautomation: bringing cohesion to automation
What you need to know: Most organizations have “islands” of efficiency that perform well independently but can struggle working together. This gives companies opportunities, such as hyperautomation, to build bridges. These tools create “an interconnected, super-efficient network of technologies,” said Tim Hood, vice president of EMEA and APAC at Hyland, in an interview with Document Manager.
The 60-second download: Hyperautomation allows organizations to bridge these productivity gaps and allows more focus on work that requires more time, creativity and a human touch. “Some surveys suggest that over half of organizations now have at least four hyperautomation initiatives running at one time, with those at the leading edge having more than 10. But introducing hyperautomation can be a challenge that some organizations understandably hesitate to tackle because they feel they lack the data, resources, knowledge and skills to do so,” said Hood.

5. DevOps and the evolution of API
What you need to know: With resources stretched and margins getting thinner, application programming interfaces and the API economy will continue to play a critical role in connecting services, applications and clouds. “The increasing importance of communication between enterprise applications has led to improved adoption of industry standards to document, develop, expose and consume APIs,” said Justin Carlson, solution engineer for integrations at Hyland Software, for TechBeacon.
The 60-second download: API management speeds up digital transformation efforts. APIs are essential in DevOps, and DevOps processes can help enhance API management. “Using a standard, such as the OpenAPI Specification, to define the API allows us to leverage third-party tooling to help in many aspects of development,” said Carlson. APIs and associated technologies are part of developers’ daily work. But API management is usually driven by business needs, such as unlocking new business models or complying to regulations and technological needs, such as connecting SaaS and no-code/low-code solutions.
