Hyland and Alfresco: Going galactic at AIIM 2021! Ready to learn all about robotic process automation, intelligent capture and organizational intelligence?

When I heard that the theme for the AIIM 2021 conference is “A galactic digital experience,” the first thing I thought of was Battlestar Galactica. Judge all you want.

Not the newer versions. I’m talking about the old-school television show from 1978. The cutting-edge (back then) show where we followed the adventures of humans in a distant solar system fleeing the Cylons, warrior robots that destroyed their home planets.

That was 43 years ago, and it reinforced the idea that, in the end, robots are out to get us.

We’ve come a long way since then. Now, executives are embracing the robots?!

80 percent of executives have put some form of robotic process automation in place, 16 percent plan to do so in the next three years.

New York Times

That’s right, 80 percent of executives are embracing robotic process automation to accelerate their digital transformations! Moreover, another 16 percent say they plan to do so in the next three years.

That leaves a scant four percent. Are you among them?

Which brings me to the upcoming AIIM conference, taking place from April 27 – 29. It’s a great place for intelligent information management pros to learn not just about robotic process automation, but other important innovative technology like intelligent capture, organizational intelligence and the latest in information governance. You’ll also find tools, strategies and approaches to take your content and information management solutions to the next level.

Hyland will be at the virtual show. But you’ll notice something different about us.

We’re a little bigger. … And a lot better than ever before.

Better together – for everyone

As part of our vision to become the world’s leading content services provider, in October of 2020, we completed our acquisition of Alfresco, the developer of a modern, cloud-native digital business platform.

Alfresco’s open source platform and development focus perfectly augment Hyland’s portfolio of content services capabilities and industry-specific solutions. Meanwhile, the addition of employees with extensive experience helps us accelerate our cloud-first strategy.

Hyland and Alfresco’s technology, focus and regional presence complement each other so well, it’s a force multiplier for our customers and partners.

– Justin Torkelson, associate vice president of mergers and acquisitions at Hyland

Our acquisitions – including recent strategic moves to add technology like robotic process automation and blockchain-anchored credentials to our robust platform – are part of our strategic plan and product vision: To create a world-class customer experience by utilizing cutting-edge development paradigms, cloud-computing practices and modern user interfaces. Organizations will benefit from pure and hybrid cloud solutions leveraging the Hyland Cloud powered by AWS, business-to-business connectivity and more frequent releases.

The combination of our two innovative companies is important. Because, while Hyland continues to be a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms (previously ECM), as we have since 2011, Alfresco moved into the  leader quadrant for the first time in the most recent 2020 report, namely for its abilities as a modern, cloud-native platform.

If someone asks me what cloud computing is, I try not to get bogged down in definitions. I tell them that, simply put, cloud computing is a better way to run your business.

– Marc Benioff, CEO Salesforce

Let’s get galactic

We’re excited to be attending AIIM for the first time with Alfresco as a member of the Hyland family. We look forward to connecting with Alfresco customers as we work together to build the future of intelligent information management.

So, you might be wondering in Battlestar Galactica, did the humans evade the robots and make it to Earth?

No spoiler alerts here. It’s not my job to ruin the ending of this fantastic television show. So I’ll ask a better question: Do the people on Earth realize that in real life, robots are here to help?

After all, our customers configure our bots to transform existing processes by doing the tedious tasks like collecting, consolidating and entering data. Not rising up against the human race. That’s what Terminators are for. … But that’s a different franchise.
