Going global together: The OnBase Summit


Back in 1991, we started out as a one-person company. Our founder, Packy Hyland, wanted to help a bank in the United States decrease its dependency on paper and optimise its business processes with document management software.

Since then, we’ve been working hard to strategically increase our global footprint. As we’ve continued to expand thoughtfully, the fruit of that labour is now online.

Almost 25 years later, we now have more than 1,800 employees located in more than 21 countries. We used to have a single, cramped office in Cleveland, but now our headquarters in Westlake, OH, is a full-fledged campus with three separate buildings and a customer experience centre where customers can see our software in action. Real-world solutions, not demos.

We also have offices in the U.K., Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Japan. And we partner with more than 500 services professionals in 35 countries. Here’s a peek at how far we’ve come:

  • 2,336 lifetime customers outside the U.S.
  • 78 countries represented
  • 131 customers outside the U.S. with inception dates in 2015

Today, I can proudly say that we’re no longer just an American company. We’re a global company. We are not exactly where we want to be yet, because we are a very passionate and ambitious group of people, but we are definitely on the way. After all, you don’t build Rome in a day.

Sharing our global – and document management – expertise

That’s why we host the annual OnBase Summit. This year’s summit – taking place in London, 3 and 4 of November – will gather more than 200 customers and attendees from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The Summit is a chance for all of us to gather and share best practices. As markets in the EMEA area mature and businesses increasingly find they need solutions like business process management, records management, and case management software, our partners and customers can look to us for guidance. After all, we provide those functionalities within a single product suite.

Personally, this is all very exciting. Now, I have worked for two multinational companies. The first one was already fit, so Rome was already built before I arrived. But right now, I’m in a thrilling place as we set ourselves up for further global success.

That’s the novelty of working in a multi-national company. I get to the London office early in the morning and work is waiting for me. I don’t have many distractions, because my main colleagues in America are still asleep. Then in the afternoon, they come online.

There’s been a lot of hard work and investment, but we’ve also experienced the joy of watching great partners expand with us. One of our core values is that our customers are our partners. And our partners are our bloodline.

That’s why we can’t wait to see everyone at the seventh-annual OnBase Summit.
