Leading change to EMRAM Stage 7: Northeast Georgia Health System

Many health systems continue paying for technology and working with vendors that do not meet their needs because they do not want to take on complex data migrations and risk downtime or lost data.

Not so for Chris Paravate (CIO of Northeast Georgia Health System) and Deven Mattheus (CIO of Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and CAO of Northeast Georgia Health System). Both CIOs boldly greet challenges and are agile and open to change. They led their teams to complete a double-Epic upgrade and a new system-wide implementation of Hyland OnBase for four hospitals and 50 clinics in a big-bang enterprise implementation.

Four days later, they opened their doors to HIMSS auditors to earn the prestigious HIMSS Stage 7 EMRAM accreditation, an accomplishment achieved by an elite 7% of U.S. healthcare entities.

How integration helps migration

“When you evaluate IT, you look at what you can do system by system and identify vendor partners that create a seamless user experience, resolve issues quickly and provide an honest relationship,” said Mattheus. “It became obvious that Hyland’s vendor integrity, accountability and partnership, coupled with seamless OnBase integration with Epic was reason to change. The integration provides for workflows that close care gaps. When a doctor orders a colonoscopy, the results are captured in OnBase and stored to the encounter or order level in Epic.”

Paravate was impressed by the speed of the implementation.

“We made so many changes in a short period of time,” he said. “Being able to complete the migration in a timely way leaves us well positioned with a scalable solution. You cannot be an innovative healthcare provider without a stable technology system that addresses daily needs. Hyland delivered on this promise and continues to engage with us and tackle any challenges we encounter.”

How to get the most out of technology

The HIMSS Analytics Maturity Model frameworks assist organizations around the globe with getting the most out of their technology investments. To guide organizations, HIMSS Analytics has certified Hyland to provide Stage 6 or Stage 7 gap analysis and on-site assessment services for EMRAM, AMAM, CCMM, DIAM and O-EMRAM.

Hyland is the only content services platform provider that delivers this service at no charge to customers.

“The Hyland team was exceptional at helping us map out our EMRAM plan,” said Paravate. “They came on-site and did a mock EMRAM survey. Based on their experience with other providers, they were able to highlight areas we needed to address. Without these insights, we may not have been as deliberate in our actions. It was exceptional support. Hyland helps drive our business.”
