Community Bankers: Report to Spring Training!

March is upon us. Phew, I can breathe a sigh of relief as the threat of winter decreases and springtime begins to turn the corner like a Cleveland Indian rounding third and heading toward home.

As you can tell, this means my favorite time of year, summertime – and Opening Day – is that much closer. But until I can get my summer baseball fix in downtown Cleveland, I will follow my beloved Indians from a distance as they debut an updated roster, and maybe even chips on their shoulders after their heartbreaking World Series loss, in spring training.

Major League Baseball is not the only thing kicking it into gear this time of year, as community bankers are also “reporting” to many key industry events. As a career financial services conference attendee, here are three community banking events you must attend this month. Think of it as Spring Training for you and your colleagues.

Here are my top three events:

1. March 15-19: 2017 ICBA Community Banking LIVE®

ICBA’s National Convention, Community Banking LIVE, is the largest gathering of community bankers in the world! Cybersecurity, automating the commercial loan process and preparing for compliance exams are key sessions during the event tracks.

The annual conference is being held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio along the banks of the world-famous River Walk, in case you need to get out and stretch your legs.

2. March 19-21: GonzoBanker Chief Information Officer Spring Roundtable

Since you’ll already be in San Antonio coming off the ICBA event, stick around for a couple more days and you won’t regret it. Cornerstone Advisors has a unique series of roundtables each year that provides community banking executives unique opportunities to collaborate and share best practices with their peers in an intimate setting.

Led by the experienced experts at Cornerstone, this is a must-attend event for CIOs.

3. March 26-28: ABA Risk Management Conference

Looking for more guidance and educational opportunities focused on enterprise, operational, and regulatory risk? Look no further than the ABA’s conference dedicated to bank risk management. Fighting fraud, insider risk and data governance will be the hot topics.

Don’t forget to pack a spring jacket before you head to Indianapolis. Unfortunately, you will just miss the start of the Minor League Indianapolis Indians baseball season, but maybe you can catch a team practice.

There you go. Three great events and three great reasons to get into midseason form for the rest of the year.
