Save 1 life, you’re a hero. Save 100 lives, you’re a nurse.

Did you know 2020 is the Year of the Nurse? I can’t think of anyone who deserves a full year of honor more than them.

In fact, last week in the United States, we celebrated National Nurses Week. And yesterday was International Nurses Day. Three great tributes for people who deserve the accolades.

In case you aren’t familiar with International Nurses Day, it’s actually a celebration of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Yesterday she would have turned 200 years old.

Ms. Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, thought of it not as a profession, but as a calling to help those in need. She also came to prominence during the Crimean War, when she effectively organized care for soldiers.

Now more than ever, it seems like nurses are going through the same challenging times when taking care of their patients.

We’ve walked in your shoes

In recognition of what our healthcare customers and their nurses do every day, we’re sharing some videos our customers produced and shared via social media. These videos are an incredible tribute to what nurses do to provide the best care possible for their patients.

We honor and thank those nurses who work for more than 3,000 Hyland Healthcare customers around the world.

Here at Hyland, we have many colleagues who have joined us after successful careers in healthcare. In fact, we have care-facing professionals from radiology, repository therapy, physical therapy, lab and administrative areas such as health information management, healthcare finance and IT.

These professionals help Hyland Healthcare excel, as we develop solutions to healthcare provider issues they’ve experienced firsthand. After all, to deliver on our mission of “For the love of patients,” our healthcare software solutions need to ensure providers deliver the best care and patient experience possible. We need to connect the systems they rely on every day to put patient content at their fingertips.

In the end, it’s all about allowing care givers to focus on patients instead of searching for information. It’s about empowering the most-informed decisions possible.

And that all starts with our nurses.

Thank you

So, in addition to all the nurses around the world, I would also like to thank the nurses on the Hyland Healthcare team who provide the first-hand knowledge that drive our solutions and ultimately help our customers support their patients and communities. These nurses continue to be the voice of our customers and clinical end users.

We honor and thank:

  • Bonnie Tallaksen RN, BSN – labor and delivery
  • Crystal Allen, RN, BSN
  • Dolly Hallaran RN, BSN – OR, informatics and nurse management
  • Jill Grillo RN, BSN Behavioral Health and Risk/ Case Management
  • Julie McDonald RN, BSN – labor and delivery, nurse leadership
  • Karyn Costin RN, BSN – pediatrics
  • Lorna Green RN, BSN –  ICU, surgery, school nurse, informatics and IT leadership

I didn’t put myself on that list, but I am also an RN, BSN, RHIT, CPHIMS – cardiothoracic ICU, ambulatory cardio/pulmonary.

Right now, nurses are in the battles of their careers. Many are putting themselves at risk and returning to bedside care to support the needs of their patients. Because that’s what nurses do.

So, please take some this week to thank a nurse – from six feet away, or on social media.
