This year, we moved in to a ‘new’ 20-year-old, home. With a new home comes many questions and surprises. Questions like “What in the heck are we supposed to do with these giant cut-outs in the walls?” to “Is this the original landscaping?”

Then, there are the upgrades. This year, we decided to tackle the landscaping and up the curb appeal of our home.

We met with several companies to hear what sort of ideas they had. Each company presented their plans, but one in particular outshone the others. Like all of the others, this person took the time to walk around with us, asked many questions, and made recommendations.

The differentiator here was that this landscaper respected the knowledge and abilities my family and I had and offered us several different approaches to the same final product.

Of course, one of the offers was for his company to do everything: Design, prepare the space, remove the old landscaping, purchase the new plants, trees, etc. and put them in place. In fact, his company would even come regularly to maintain everything. His company also offered the option to go with any combination of these – a la carte, as they say.

We appreciated the flexibility. As we have found out over the years, being able to adapt to your customers’ needs and changing business environments is a key to success.

This is the same approach our Upgrade Services team at Hyland Software takes when working with our customers to upgrade OnBase. We are available to step in and help for any phase of an OnBase software upgrade, from consulting to end-to-end upgrade services.

It’s no secret that it’s a good idea to upgrade to our latest version at least every few years in order to take advantage of the optimized features, improved performance and new capabilities across the OnBase product suite. However, we know this is sometimes easier said than done.

This is why, when it is time to upgrade OnBase, many of our customers reach out to Hyland’s Upgrade Services teams to assist. We understand that every customer solution varies, from the version you are upgrading, to the infrastructure, to the size and use of your system. Our experts are Certified OnBase Installers who specialize in upgrades and understand the best methods for upgrading your specific system.

Here are three options designed to fit any scenario/situation/plan:

1. Upgrade planning and risk assessment

Our software upgrade experts work with your team to evaluate your current OnBase deployment, verify infrastructure plans, and identify specific components, like scripting or custom code, that should be evaluated or re-implemented as part of the upgrade process.

This is appropriate when you have a trained system administrator capable of executing the upgrade, but want the assurance there are no unforeseen issues. This level of service includes a deliverable document outlining suggested tasks and/or a briefing on any concerns.

2. End-to-end upgrade

We’ll upgrade or create your test environment, identify the appropriate upgrade strategy, plan and checklist, support you in the testing phase, perform (or support your needs for) the production upgrade, as well as provide post-upgrade support. In the end, we’ll work with you to craft a strategy that best works for your solution and your organizational needs.

We’ll also point out key new features and functionality that may be beneficial, as well as provide additional training and guidance in areas such as database maintenance or general administrative tasks.

3. Upgrade consulting

This service is for those customers who have most aspects of an OnBase upgrade covered and merely want general guidance and assistance leading up to the software upgrade. Many of our customers want a Hyland consultant to work side-by-side with their team during the production upgrade, supporting the strategy and approach.
