Purpose, Perceptive, priorities, partnership: Bill Priemer at #CommunityLIVE

It’s on, folks.

As Bill Priemer, Hyland’s president and CEO, said, “Right now, more than 2,000 people are devoting their most valuable asset – time.”

They’re taking the time to learn, share knowledge, and share experiences. That’s what it’s all about. And that’s why we call it CommunityLIVE.

Bill’s speech focused on what he called the four Ps: Purpose, Perceptive, priorities, and partnership. Here are the details.


“For Hylanders, this is where it all starts. Our purpose every day is to enable organizations and employees to achieve their full potential,” Bill said. “Our purpose is to help you engage in meaningful work.”

We do that by helping you better manage content, processes, and cases. We deliver the information people need, when they need it, wherever they’re located.

We also help you evolve. In turn, we look to you to help us evolve.

In fact, for OnBase 17, we incorporated nearly 3,500 new customer-driven features and enhancements. That’s what I call a symbiotic relationship.

And we take that relationship seriously.

As Bill said, “Our work affects people. We enable you and your colleagues to work faster and better so you’re empowered with information to help your students, constituents, patients, insureds, members, and customers.”

But we can’t do it without your feedback. Bill was serious when he told people that if they don’t want to fill out our surveys, they can email or call him. He truly wants to hear from you. We all want to hear from you.

Bill then noted how our purpose helps shapes our vision: “We will be the leading provider of solutions for managing content, processes, and cases.”

It’s a lofty goal, but we’re well on our way.

Perceptive: Better together

Next, Bill talked about our largest acquisition to date, Perceptive. As both companies have always followed parallel paths, it was a natural fit.

We now have more than 3,000 employees and more than 16,000 customers. But we’re not just bigger, we’re better. In fact, we believe we’re the best. But don’t just take our word for it.


Next up, Bill listed six priorities we’ve been focusing on:

1. Lead the category

We embrace this.

“For more than 25 years,” Bill noted, “we’ve competed against that largest and the biggest companies, and maybe they’ve changed focus, but they are no longer innovating in this industry like we are.”

Naturally, without anyone to follow, we have to lead. From Workflow to Workview and ShareBase, our online file-sharing solution, we need to be the vendor others are looking to for guidance. We’re going to lead the way to show organizations how they can use our enterprise information platform to get rid of niche applications and silos to reduce IT sprawl.

It’s all about getting the right info to the right people at the right time so they can get their work done – better.

2. Elevate our platform

To accomplish this, Bill said, “We’re going to continue to aggressively advance our products and solutions. We’re going to improve our usability with better user interfaces and navigation. Our solutions will continue to grow in their intuitiveness. We know they need to be pleasing to work with.”

From better graphics to improved layout and the ability for you to personalize – that’s where we’re heading. Configurability is key. And our enhancements based on user feedback will continue.

Meanwhile, we’ll continue our intense focus on security. We’ll also continue to lead with the Hyland Cloud, our cloud content management solution. We’re confident of this direction.

3. Be a tier-one vendor

To do so, we’re going to increase our mission-critical applications across the enterprise. Our architecture will better fit with yours, as flexibility is a major goal. We’ll also continue to improve your ability to configure our solutions.

Being a tier-one vendor also means we need to increase our project management capabilities. We don’t just leave after implementation; we want to partner with you long-term.

We’ll also continue to work on our multi-level relationship management and increase the amount of executive-level conversations we’re having to ensure our paths are leading to the same destination.

4. Serve the mid-market

Another priority for us is to focus on smaller deployments that are cost-effective; so we’ll be packaging more solutions together. For customers who may not need all the functionality of OnBase, we developed ShareBase. This is a lower-cost option for companies that haven’t embraced document management yet.

5. Continue to expand globally

We now have 32 offices around the world, 160 employees in Europe, 30 in Australia, the EMEA Summit, and on and on. While we’re proud of our Cleveland roots, our market is the entire world.

6. Increase our rigor

“We’re also going to increase our rigor in the way we conduct our own business,” Bill told the crowd. “Our internal processes need to continue to grow in efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency.”

We want to continue to get better so we can help more customers around the world.


Our core value No. 1 has always been: Our customers are our partners.

There’s value in working together. We help each other by pointing out areas of improvement. We think collaboration is the key.

As an example, Bill referenced the Apollo 13 mission. When the astronauts were in a damaged vessel on the dark side of moon, they could have felt all alone. But they had radio contact with experts, so they weren’t alone. They had a great team that never gave up until they successfully brought the Apollo team home without injury.

Bill closed his energetic speech by noting how we’ve seen what we can do together. The solutions we’ve built. How it’s all about the partnership.

He then thanked everyone for being here.

“Gather the momentum,” Bill urged. “Take it back to the office to continue down your own path to digital transformation.”

And be the best you can be. Because that’s always a priority.
