Ed McQuiston and Swiss Army knives at #CommunityLIVE

Yesterday at CommunityLIVE, Ed McQuiston – Hyland’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer – delivered an outstanding keynote speech. I say that not only because it was full of great information, but it was also hilarious.

For example, McQuiston began with a story about how, a few years ago, he tried to do some electrical work on his house. It turned into a fiasco.

When a friend came over for dinner, he took a look at McQuiston’s wiring and said, “You’re done.”

The next day, he gave McQuiston a Swiss Army knife and said, “From now on, this is the only tool you’re allowed to use.”

Transformational

That was the analogy McQuiston used to describe Hyland solutions, because our tools are much like Swiss Army knives – they’re transformational. A single solution can give you the ability to take on many projects. But unlike those multifunctional knives, our solutions empower you to optimize processes and – with access to the right information when and where you need it – improve experiences with both your employees and customers.

As they say, knowledge is power.

And the most powerful thing your organization can do right now is to begin – or continue – a digital transformation. Taking advantage of the evolving digital world is what we all need to do to create more meaningful connections with the people we serve. Because digital is how they get things done.

But you can’t invest in a new tool every time you take on a new project.

“It takes an average of 10 months to research and purchase a technology solution,” said McQuiston. “And typically, almost seven people will be involved in the decision.”

That’s a lot of time.

Configurability, not customization
