2 truths and 1 lie: Robotic process automation

As the volume and pace of digital information continues to increase, the value robotic process automation (RPA) applications provide is impossible to ignore. Not only can RPA applications automate repetitive and high-volume data processes involving multiple applications and users, they do so without requiring system integration.

For a simple example, consider an organization with an ERP system that requires 20-plus clicks to generate end-of-the-month reports. That’s a lot of clicking. To optimize the tedious process – and maintain employee sanity – the customer can simply use an RPA bot to do it. After watching a user generate the reports, the bot learns the process and can complete the work in seconds.

  • The ability to access and process sensitive data without human involvement reduces the risk of exposure and enables defensible audit trails and chains of custody
